Songs About Battles and War

Posted 3 Mar, 2022

Throughout history there have been plenty of songs and poems about wars and the battles between nations. Ironically since the dawn of rock n roll most songs have taken on an anti-war tone, perhaps a sign of a changing society. Either way a great topic for a songwriter to fall back on is violence on a big scale! Below we have a mix of songs all about battles that sound great on your ukulele. Just because the uke is such a happy instrument doesn’t mean it can’t be used for heavy topics!

Here ABBA uses a pop ditty to reference Napoleon’s defeat as being the same thing as settling to fall in love with another.

This Springsteen song has a more serious tone and even a few different chords like minor 7th and sus4 ones.

03

John Lennon

Part: Full

John Lennon wasn’t a big fan of war, even the song “Revolution” is not really advocating fighting. All the chords are relatively easy with slow changes.

Redgum

Part: Full

The Vietnam conflict probably has the most songs written than any other battle or war. Most anti-war songs of the late 60’s and 70’s were inspired by it.

Rise Against

Part: Short

This song definitely switches gears as the verses progress, not exactly where you expect the story to go.
