Songs about Rivers

Posted 3 Mar, 2022

Long before there was pop, rock, and other modern genres there were songs about rivers. They have been mentioned in chants, prayers, hymns, and every kind of song since the dawn of time. To some songwriters they represent the cities they flow through, while others see them as a vehicle for change (like David Bowie in his song “Changes”). Either way if you need some songs about rivers there are plenty to choose from. Here are some that particularly work well on the ukulele.

This song was written by John Fogerty in the band Creedence Clearwater Revival, but Ike and Tina Turner also had a hit with it.

Here Gerry and the Pacemakers actually used the name of a river. Another song with easy but fast changes.

Al Green

Part: Full

Years ago there was a novelty fish sold in stores that sang this Talking Heads song. It was even featured in the show The Sopranos.

Neil Young

Part: Full

This Neil Young tune is about way more serious subject matter than a simple flowing river. Songwriters love writing about shooting loved ones.

05

The Doors

Part: Full

Usually songs by The Doors are not that hard, but this one has a lot of chords to keep track of on the ukulele.
