Long before there was pop, rock, and other modern genres there were songs about rivers. They have been mentioned in chants, prayers, hymns, and every kind of song since the dawn of time. To some songwriters they represent the cities they flow through, while others see them as a vehicle for change (like David Bowie in his song “Changes”).
