Mercedes Sosa (born 9 July 1935, died 3 October 2009 in Buenos Aires) was an Argentinean singer inmensely popular throughout Latin America. With her roots in argentinean folk music, she became one of the preeminent exponents of nueva trova (new song). Sosa is greatly admired for the depth and beauty of her contralto voice. She is nicknamed &quot;La Negra&quot; by her fans for her long, jet-black hair.Actually she is nicknamed &quot;La Negra&quot; because that's the way in Argentina we called affectously to dark skinned and hair people...

Haydée Mercedes Sosa San Miguel de Tucumán, (9 juillet 1935 - 4 octobre 2009), est une chanteuse argentine mieux connue sous le nom de Mercedes Sosa. Très populaire dans toute l'Amérique latine, elle est appelée La Negra (La Noire) par ses admirateurs.  Elle a commencé à chanter très tôt, et dès l'âge de 15 ans, elle a gagné un concours dans une station de radio.  Elle s'est ensuite impliquée dans le mouvement nommé la nueva cancion, et a enregistré son premier album Canciones con Fundamento, un recueil de chansons folkloriques argentines.
