Soul Asylum is an american alternative rock band formed in the summer of 1981 by Minneapolis high school friends Dan Murphy, Karl Mueller, and Dave Pirner. The band (named Loud Fast Rules up until 1984) quickly became frontrunners of American college rock, following in the tradition of fellow Minnesota bands H&uuml;sker D&uuml; and The Replacements.  Landing their first record deal with Twin/Tone in 1984, Soul Asylum recorded a total of four albums for the local label: Say What You Will... Everything Can Happen in 1984 (later reissued as <span title="Unknown album" class="bbcode_unknown">Say What You Will, Clarence.</span>

Im Gründungsjahr kam Grant Young als Schlagzeuger in die Band; Pirner wechselte dafür an die Gitarre und übernahm den Gesang.

Sus integrantes son Dave Pirner (voz y guitarra), Dan Murphy (voz y guitarra), Karl Mueller (voz y bajo) y Grant Young (batería). Misery

&quot;Misery&quot; is a 1995 song performed by the Minneapolis rock band Soul Asylum. Although Let Your Dim Light Shine critically suffered in comparison to its predecessor, Grave Dancers Union, &quot;Misery&quot; managed to hit number 20 on The Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song also featured prominently in Kevin Smith's 2006 movie Clerks II.  Some people have speculated that the song itself is referring to the fact that the record companies like to make &quot;Misery&quot; (aka alternative rock songs with dark lyrics).
